ABOUT

Rhett Kind

Coach

Rhett Kind is a very passionate coach, who bestows many great qualities, in which he instills in those he trains.  He’s motivated and dislikes losing, therefore he is pretty loud and normally heard from the other side of the gym while coaching. He believes with the right work ethic, effort, dedication, passion, and love for the game, anyone can be successful at basketball.   Rhett believes it is more than a game; it’s a way of life!

Rhett was born in Henderson, TX in 1988.  He grew up playing sports, such as baseball, where he became a little league All-Star from 4th grade until high school.   He went on to play in high school, and started as a freshman. Rhett also played football, where he led the district in receiving yards 2 years in a row.  Lastly, he played basketball, and became an All East Texas All-Star.

After meeting Bobby Knight on his trip to Texas Tech University his junior year, he became more serious about basketball.   He then decided to turn down multiple college football offers to pursue his dreams in basketball. In his senior year of basketball, he made the East Texas All Star team and the Shooting All Stars.  Even though he finished his senior year of basketball 1st team All District, Offensive Player of the Year, and All East Texas, he still didn’t receive as many looks in basketball as he did for football.   Therefore, he decided to walk on at Tyler Junior College, where he was then red-shirted for a year.

After a year of not playing, Rhett moved on to playing semi-pro football on a local team back home. In 2010, his mentor and friends convinced him of pursuing basketball again, so he then went to Portland, OR for a tryout on a team. In Portland, Rhett made an International team combined with teams from China. In 2014, the teams were separated to International and Continental conferences.  Rhett then decided to move to Dallas, TX, where he had planned on joining a professional team.  While training he tore his ACL, MCL, and LCL in both knees. Even though Rhett is still young enough to play, his focus is on his career, and helping youth and collegiate athletes progress in the sport he believes is the best game in the world!

In 2015, Rhett was introduced to coach Brian Lloyd, of D1 Academy, and the rest was history from that point forward.  Coach Lloyd’s passion for the game met Rhett’s level of passion, and since has been head coach of several teams for D1 Academy.   While coaching for the Academy, he has also continued with his own basketball training/ personal training business.
